Barrie's Historic Downtown, ON, Canada
Barrie’s population exceeds 145,000 residents. It’s history began with First Nations using Kempenfelt Bay as a resting place. Following the War of 1812, more people arrived, establishing the first community. The city, named for British Admiral Sir Robert Barrie, expanded its economy through tall tree and ice block exports for refrigeration.
Downtown Barrie is rich in historic architecture. A visit to the Five Points intersection (1833) is a must, including the Simcoe Hotel (rebuilt 1876), which boasts original hardwood cellar beams.
Barrie’s unique blend of historical sites and modern attractions makes it a an amazing travel destination.
